Self-Fulfilling Prophetic Happiness

How I think I look when I'm not 100%
I'm not planning on giving up blogging while I try to fix things.  I'll just have to Keep Calm and Carry On.

A couple days ago I heard from a workplace I had an interview for...I didn't get the job.  This really bummed me out for a while because I thought I had a great interview and felt some rapport with the people interviewing me.  This was the first interview where I wasn't asked the total BS questions.  The work was right up my alley and as the interview progressed I found myself really wanting to work with these people.  Because of this hopeful expectation getting the call that I wasn't selected felt more like a rejection than I expected.

That call, by the way, was the absolute best "sorry, but we went with someone else" call I have ever received.  The norm, even if you get an interview, is either a sterile letter or email.  That call just reinforces the fact that this would have been an awesome place to work.  I'm not going to let this go quite yet.....I'd like to see if I could find a mentor here.

Of course, this is me thinking now.  When I got the call I was full of hurt and self-doubt.  For those of you that know me in person, I don't do well in hiding my emotions.  I'm 100% certain that my mood was affecting the Mrs. and I'm sure it wasn't doing me any good either.

Yesterday while I was making Sauerkraut I listened to the Adam Carolla podcast.   I love listening to him because I enjoy his rants.  They generally seem spot-on to me and it's easy enough to pull out things he says simply for comedic effect and those that can be mined for useful advice.

A couple things he's been pushing in his rants lately spoke to me.  The first thing was from Monday's podcast (Q & Ace).  His simple point was essentially that your life is a self-fulfilling prophecy.  He was talking specifically about being "sane" and I don't completely agree just as far as some mental health issues go, but replace "sane" with "happy" and it makes 100% sense.  If you want to be happy, act happy.

A second part of this that really dovetails nicely into the above is from the An Evening With Adam Carolla and Dennis Prager.  I haven't listened to that spoken word episode because it is a $8 download, but I have heard some snippets spread throughout his podcasts as ads.  Last January he also had Dennis Prager on the show.  Great mix of an Atheist and a devout Jew, highly educated and worldly experienced.  One bit that Dennis spoke about was how you owe the people around you your happiness.  He went into this on one of his October shows (link is a transcript).

Wow....this information reminds me of some things learned in....well, let's just say I'm a Friend of Claudia.  If you don't know what I mean, that's OK.  It's more akin to being a Friend of Bill and less a Friend of Dorothy.

Awesome a capella singer
When this clicked in my head it was like...wow.  I need to just be happy, so I am.  I've got a few things done yesterday and even today and I'm having fun.  Spoke to a few friends, worked on some projects, and looking for my next career.....

Go listen to this guy if you want to smile.......(click on the pic)

bummer about the job, sorry to here. I have been listening a bit to Adam C too. I have enjoyed his perspectives, and also his thoughts on celebrity apprentice.
