And now for something usefull

I've mention TableSmith before, but it's been a while and this is such a great program for the GM. A couple of years ago I spent way too much time typing out a bunch of tables for HackMaster. The biggest set is probably the GMG Magic Item tables, but I have a bunch of smaller tables as well, some of which draw fromt he magic item sub-tables.

The SSG (Spell Slinger's Guide) has several tables for spellbook generation, so I got the bright idea of creating a random spellbook generator that starts with the SSG tables and ends with a pull from the magic item tables (actually part of the magic scroll sub-tables). The spellbook generator has some parameters allowing the GM to create a low-mid-high level spellbook and a rough approximation of how full the book would be.

Here is an example:
Standard Spellbook: Monster (Sewer Gopher) hide cover with parchment pages14" x 12" x 8" (HxWxT), 96 pages, 4.5 lbs (Encumbrance Modifier is x3)
M1: Wrygal's Deception (2 pages)
M1: Zymun's Guidance Counselor (HJ 4.23) (6 pages)
M3: Icy Sphere (HJ 4.15) (5 pages)
M2: ESP (4 pages)
M2: Challandra's Life Draining Hand (HJ 4.22) (6 pages)
M1: Patternweave (3 pages)
M1: Enlarge (1 pages)
M2: Telepathic Mute (5 pages)
M2: Wizard Lock (4 pages)
M2: Reveal Secret Portal (6 pages)
M1: Imaginary Friend (1 pages)
M1: Magic Missile (6 pages)
47 blank pages remain

I've also made tables for a random selection of a Chosen One's spells which takes into account the Chosen One's level and Charisma, and I've got a few more tables in mind.

I do need to update the tables to take account of newer KoDT and HackJournal issues, but this is my latest source list:
HackMaster PHB
HackMaster GMG
HackMaster Errata Last update 8/15/2003
The Adventure's Guide to Pixie Fairies
Lord Flataroy's Guide to Fortifications
HackJammer
The Grifter's Guide to Life's Wildest Dreams
By the Sword
The Combatant's Guide to Slaughtering Foes
The Spellslinger's Guide to Wurld Domination
The Zealot's Guide to Wurld Conversion
Knights of the Dinner Table up to Issue #137 (missing #124-126)
HackJournal up to Issue #25
Adventures: The Tower of Jhedophar, Wryneck's Wheelhouse, Crypt of the Lizard King, Tomb of Unspeakable Horrors, The Prophecy of Shardar, Porpher's Enchanted Garden, City of Brass, Annihilate the Giants, Little Keep on the Borderlands, Smackdown the Slavers, White Doom Mountain, Slaughterhouse Indigo, Road to Aster, The Hidden Shrine, Lost Caverns, Robinloft & Robinloft 2: Tahd's Legacy.

Some adjudications have been made as to table location and percentages when not specified by original source
I cannot stress how useful I've found TableSmith to be. The program is Shareware and the author only requires a $5 registration fee if you want to disable the prompts. Totally worth it!
